My Autumn Essentials

imageWe are well into Autumn now and it’s definitely time for some Autumnal themed blog posts!

There are items, both beauty and non beauty related, that we all NEED to have at this time of year, to make Autumn that little bit better.

Autumn eyeshadows are one of my most important beauty products at this time of year. In the Summer and Spring, I normally for minimal eye makeup and a brighter lip, however in the Autumn I go for darker eyes, with more shimmer and depth, copper and brown tones.

imageThis is the Clarins Eye Quartet Mineral Palette Long-Lasting in 02 Nudes.

I’ve only used this palette a few times but I really have enjoyed using it. All four shadows are shimmer based, and there is a creamy nude, light candy pink, a coffee/taupe shade and a deep brown.

I love this palette because the shades are so different to most of the palettes that are being released in the Autumn. A lot are full of dark greys, blacks, purples, olives, and coppers, all of which I love, but it’s difficult to find a palette with shades that are perfect for Autumn but that will create a softer daytime look that’s buildable for the evening.

These shades are medium pigmentation I would say and blendable. This fall out isn’t too bad at all but if you are going in with the darker shade all over I would definitely suggest doing your eyes before your base makeup.

imageThese are two shadows from MAC, and they are Amber Lights on the left which is a deep, golden copper and one of my all time favourite eyeshadows and Trax on the right which is a gorgeous purple shade with a slight shimmer and gold threaded through it.

MAC shadows are beautifully pigmented and I find they’re one of the best brands for lack of fallout. These colours are SO Autumnal and absolutely perfect for this time of year. I find copper especially suits any eye colour, so it really is a one colour fits all shade and I definitely suggest investing in some copper shades for Autumn and Winter if you haven’t already. Paired with a berry lip, it’s such a gorgeous combination for makeup at this time of year.

Autumn lip essentials are the next thing on my list. Berry tones, deep reds, browns and cinnamon shades, these are all colours that we love all year round but are best paired with a thick coat and a chill in the air.

imageThese two lip liners from MAC are my favourite for this time of year. Spice is a deep chestnut brown and Whirl is also a brown but with more mauve undertones. Perfect for creating a dark Autumn lip.

imageI’ve narrowed my essential Autumn lipsticks down to 3 which was very, very hard as you may well imagine as I have about 50-60 that I’ll probably wear through until March time!

I’ve included 2 Clarins lipsticks from their new Joli Rouge range and also a Revlon Colourburst Lip Butter.

imageSoft Plum is a deep purple shade is still light enough to be worn as a daytime shade. There is another plum shade, Royal Plum in the Clarins Joli Rouge lipstick range that I decided not to include in this post, but it’s still gorgeous however a much darker shade.

imageThis is Spicy Cinammon, and this goes SO perfectly with Whirl lip liner by MAC. It’s a deep browney orange shade with a satin finish like all the Joli Rouge lip pies and it’s so lovely with a subtle eye during the day or build up with a matching copper eye for the evening. Love it!

imageThis last lipstick is in the shade Macaroon by Revlon and it’s a lovely deep mauve pink, perfect for an Autumn/Winter evening teamed with a copper smokey eye. It’s a really creamy and hydrating consistency with a sheen finish.

My next set of Autumn essentials are some gorgeous candles from Kiss Air Candles.

imageThe first one I chose was Cinnamon. Obviously it’s a total Autumn scent so it goes without saying I had to feature this! The candles come in the cutest little tins which you can reuse after they’ve burnt out.

The smell of this one just takes me straight to a spa massage room where they burn similar scents and also makes me think of Christmas. Two very opposite things but this is honestly such a gorgeous smelling candle.

imageThe next candle I chose was Blueberry Cheesecake – admittedly, not the most Autumnal candle I could’ve chosen but delicious all the same.

I could smell this candle forever. It has the most sweet, blueberry, almost bubblegum infused scent ever and it takes a lot of willpower to not lick it just to see what it tastes like! (I didn’t I swear).

imageThe last candle in my Autumn Essentials is this lovely Lavender one.

I absolutely love lavender; I’m a very anxious person so when I’m having a particularly bad day I love to rub some lavender balm into my skin because it really calms me down, so naturally lavender candles are one of my favourite things to use to wind down.

Faux fur is the next on my autumn essential list.

imageAt this time of year it’s not anywhere near as freezing as it will be soon, but it’s still pretty chilly. If you want to glam an outfit up, then a faux fur sole is perfect for it!

These are my two favourites; the grey and black stripy is from Missguided and the pink is from Miss Selfridge. I’m going to be purchasing a few in darker shades next week as I think they’ll look fab paired with a dark lip!

imageI’ve chosen two shades for my essential Autumn nail varnishes; a deep black purple by Nails Inc called Wigmore Street and a light khaki shade by Kiko which doesn’t appear to have a name on it!

Both are really pretty shades and will really compliment an Autumn outfit or makeup look.

My last Autumn essentially is a good book for all those cold nights!

imageI read a lot more in Autumn and Winter than I do in Spring and Summer. The warm months are for evenings spent sitting outside bars and restaurants, in pub gardens and on the beach. When it’s cold in the evening there’s nothing I want to do more than lie in bed with some snacks and a good book with fresh bedsheets and a hot water bottle!

I’m currently reading Little Girl Gone by Alexandra Burt and so far I’m loving it – it’s a dramatic thriller about an American woman who’s baby daughter goes missing. I’ll let you know how I get on with it!

Anyway that is the end of my short but sweet Autumn essentials. I hope you enjoyed it, and let me know in the comments or by tweeting me @btongirlprobs what YOUR Autumn essentials are!

All my love BGP xx
