Today is another blog in my 5 Minutes With blog series where I do short interviews with the biggest names in beauty, fashion, blogging and YouTube.
I was lucky enough to interview Lucy Radwell, a UK fashion blogger with an incredible 72,000 Instagram followers and a wardrobe to die for.
Lucy is a big name in the fashion blogging world, working with every online fashion retailer you could think of, and sharing her incredible outfits on social media on a daily basis for us to lust over! She’s beautiful, always tanned, and has a shoe collection to drool over – maybe not the best person to Insta-stalk when you’re slogging about in your jammies with greasy hair, but definitely a brilliant person to get some shopping inspo from.
So, without further ado, let’s get on with the questions!
Hi Lucy, thanks so much for speaking to me today! So, you have an insane Instagram following – could you share your tips on building up an online following?
I think consistency is key. I try to post at least three times a day and share full blog posts a couple of times a week. However, quality is also very important, so don’t just post things for the sake of it. I’d rather post nothing all day if I don’t have anything engaging to share. I’ve been building my followers for a few years now. It takes time, patience and commitment!
How did you get into the blogging fashion industry, and what is your advice for anyone struggling to get to grips with fashion?
I just set up a WordPress account and started writing, at the very beginning I didn’t even model the clothes, I just wrote about new purchases, styles I liked, and it went from there. Then I eventually I started to use Instagram to advertise my posts and my followers grew.
At the end of the day, fashion is what you make it! I don’t look at an item and think ”is this fashionable”, I just find items I love and post about those, that’s what creates your personal style. Finding your personal style is key with getting to grips with your fashion sense; you’ll feel more confident wearing clothes you feel are in-line with what you genuinely like.
What are your Top 5 Beauty Products?
Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water, MAC Strobe Cream, La Biosthetique Luxury Spa Oil…and of course fake tan! I’m currently using Bondi Sands!
How long had you been blogging before it became a career, and what are your tips for anyone trying to blog full time?
I started my blog during my second year of University in April 2013 as I knew I wanted to enter the fashion industry when I graduated. I graduated in July 2015 and have been blogging full time since, so one year. I absolutely love blogging full time, obviously the initial move was a risk, but the transition from graduating to unemployment seemed like the perfect time to give it a shot and I have no regrets. I think it’s sensible to be blogging for a few years before you go full time as this gives you the chance to build up followers and find your place in the industry. After this, the key is to just go for it (like me)!
What’s next for you and your blog?
I have a few exciting projects coming up but that’s all under wraps! I’m going to continue blogging my favourite brands and focus on shooting summer styles as this is my first summer of full time blogging!
Thank you so much Lucy for all your wonderful answers!
