Today’s blog post is a really special and important one, so I hope that you’ll read until the end and show your support.
For a while now, I’ve been wanting to support a charity, but there are so many that mean so much to me, and that do amazing work, so it was difficult to choose which one, and what to do, and how to fundraise.
I had the idea of giving up alcohol for a month, but I didn’t feel that was really enough. I mean, I drink pretty regularly…well, weekly, and when I do drink, it’s not just one glass either! I decided to sacrifice alcohol until the 1st December. Not a drop will pass my lips, which means that every birthday, night out, and leaving party I have coming up, I shall be on the mocktails!
Anyway, more about who I’m supporting, and why, and how you can help.
I decided that I am going to fundraise for the Samaritans. They are an absolutely incredible charity, who literally save lives.
They are a completely confidential organisation who are ready to help people 365 days a year, 24 hours a day. By phone, by email, or face to face in one of their 201 branches currently across the UK and Republic of Ireland.
I can’t express how important their work is; the people picking up the phones, responding to emails, and helping out in the branches, are all volunteers. They are not paid one single penny, they just do it out of the kindness of their hearts to help people who are going through tough times and are struggling to cope.
I am hoping to raise £5000 for the Samaritans. I know that this is a lot of money, but with the support of my family, friends, and amazing followers, I am hoping I can do it.
As I’m sure most of you know, I work with an amazing brand called Coconut Lane, an online site that sells everything from gorgeous jewellery, to birthday cards, to sassy phone cases. I have a discount code for them which is BRIGHTON20 and anyone that uses that code gets 20% off everything on their website. I get commission for anyone who uses that code, but I am going to be giving every penny to my Samaritans fundraising, as I know how much good the money will go to. It will train volunteers, that are desperately needed to answer calls and give ongoing email support to people battling suicidal thoughts and feelings, and who don’t know where to turn.
It will also help the ongoing costs of the Samaritans, phone lines, broadband, everything like that. The £5000 I am hoping to raise will help this incredible organisation in so many ways I can’t explain.
16 people a day commit suicide in the UK – that is 16 too many.
Please, give what you can, even if it’s a couple of pounds, you will be helping to save people who are in dire need of support.
The link for my fundraising page is here https://www.gofundme.com/2ws3fx5g and I will be unexplainably grateful if you could donate whatever you can, and share it with your family and friends to help spread awareness of the Samaritans and the work they do.
I will be documenting my journey of no prosecco or cocktails (cry) on my blog and social media, and I will be having a massive celebration on the 1st December when we hit the £5000 target, and hopefully go over it!
All my love BGP xx
