Market Restaurant & Bar Review | 2018

I wanted to do an updated review of one of my favourite Brighton restaurants for you all, so I popped in on  for lunch a few weeks back, so that I could let you all know my thoughts.

I get asked on a daily basis for Brighton restaurant recommendations (a massive compliment that you all trust my taste buds, and also I know it’s because you’re all aware of what a greedy bitch I am), so I want to make sure I start blogging more about my favourites.

Friday was my fourth or fifth visit here, and I love it more each time. I discovered it when me and my friend tried to go over the road for dinner one night, but it was closed for a private party. It was pissing it down outside and we ran in a panic across the road and said we’d eat in the nearest place, which was Market. It was a Saturday night, it was packed, and we were drenched, and they managed to fit us in downstairs. We fell in love with the place, the atmosphere, and most importantly, the food.

I tried something I’ve never tried before on Friday cocktail-wise, which was the Spanish Classic; Cava, Spanish brandy, brown sugar, Angosturo bitters. It was absolutely amazing; refreshing, fruity, and perfect for my immature taste buds that can’t candle anything too bitter, sharp or strong (doesn’t stop me at 2am when it comes to Tequilas, though).

I ordered 3 dishes and a dessert, and I was stuffed by the end of it; I normally visit with my friend who I discovered it with, so we order a few more dishes in those circumstances, but I was a lone ranger on this occasion and the amount I ordered was perfect, and left me seriously needing a daytime nap.

First of all, I had the Cauliflower with crispy kale which was just UNREAL. I didn’t think I’d ever be describing cauliflower as unreal but it was, with an unreal creamy mousse alongside it that made it so flavoursome.

I order the Spanish Mac n Cheese with Truffle every single time I come here, simply because it’s genuinely the best mac and cheese I’ve been blessed enough to have in my mouth. It’s perfection, and I love dipping whatever else I order in it.

Beef Cheek, Beets, Chicory, Onion is the name of this dish, and to cut a long story short it’s the best piece of meat, let alone beef, I’ve ever eaten. Never in my life have I eaten something so tender, it is literally like butter that melts in your mouth. It’s cooked to perfection and the sauce is rich, the accompaniments are brilliantly seasoned and compliment it so well, and it’s just all around amazing.

Lastly, but obviously not least, Hazelnut & Caramel Parfait with Dark Chocolate Mousse – I mean JUST LOOK AT IT. WOW. Just wow. Obviously, it finished me off for the day because it’s so rich and indulgent but it was worth every bite. The dark chocolate mousse especially was incredible, the most chocolately (wow I’m great at describing food and tastes aren’t I?), sweet, luxurious addition to the parfait ever.

Honestly, Market is one of my all time favourite restaurants, and probably my favourite in Brighton. The people who work there and the owner Kate are amazing, the atmosphere is always brilliant, the food and cocktails are second to none…I could not recommend the place enough.
